Delhi RTR Flyover: All you need to know

Good news for daily commuters travelling between Outer Ring Road in Delhi to IGI Airport! After a much longer delay, the Rao Tula Ram flyover was finally inaugurated on July 16 by the Delhi Government. The flyover will not only decongest the Rao Tula Ram crossing at the Outer Ring Road but will also provide relieves to thousands of commuters who faced major traffic jam near Munirka.

The 2.7 km long RTR Flyover offers signal-free commutation to daily travellers between Munirka and Army Research and Referral Hospital near Subroto Park near NH-8. The flyover which was constructed at the cost of 310 crores was proposed in 2014 with a proposed deadline of 2016. However, due to various bottlenecks like delay in permission for cutting of trees, and financial problems the deadline got missed and it finally inaugurated on July 16.

Important Things to Know

The three-lane elevated road will also provide relief to commuters travelling from various areas of South Delhi like Munirka, Hauz Khas, Greater Kailash and Noida to Gurgaon or Airport. It will also decongest South Campus, Moti Bagh, and Vasant Vihar corridors.

Apart from this, construction of an underpass is also proposed between South Campus and San Martin Road in Chanakyapuri. The deadline for the completion of this underpass is somewhere later this year.

Welcoming the inauguration, residents and daily commuters said that we now expect that the opening up of this flyover will provide us relief from the snarling traffic jam which we were facing from last 20 years.
