Parliamentary Panel Demand Increase in Budget for Kolkata Metro Rail Project

News

The Parliamentary Panel headed by Sudip Bandopadhyay asks for an increase in the budget allocation for Kolkata metro. This is the oldest metro project that is running in the country and comes under the Railway Ministry.

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation [KMRCL] caters rigorously to the constantly increasing population in the City of Joy- Kolkata. The Corporation requires funds to complete various on-going work related to the metro which can only be completed after the sanction of sufficient funds from the Ministry of Railways.

Sudip Bandopadhyay, the head of Parliamentary Panel and Trinamool Congress MP said, “The allocation to the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) has been revised downwards by almost 25 percent, from Rs 1,937 crores at BE (budget estimate) 2017-2018 to Rs 1,500 crores at RE (revised estimate) 2017-2018.”

He further stated that the 400 crore difference in the budget of financial year 2017-18 and 2018-19 will hamper the Kolkata metro rail project. As the Railway Ministry has allocated only Rs. 1100 crore for KMRCL in this year’s budget.

The Panel demands increase in budget allocation in order to complete work in the given timeframe.
