Jewar Airport: Tender for concessionaires likely in August

Greater Noida:  The much ambitious International airport at Jewar has recently got clearance from Defence Ministry. With this approval, the much-awaited airport moves one more step towards reality. Now in another development, a senior official of the nodal agency YEIDA told that they will now start inviting concessionaires for which the tender will likely to be out in August.

According to Prabhat Kumar YEIDA Chairman, “The bid document inviting concessionaires for Jewar airport will be made public in August. The aim is that we finalise the concessionaire by the end of this year.”

In a meeting between, YEIDA, Civil Aviation Ministry and Airport Authority of India which took place few weeks before, certain timelines were also discussed for the project.  In order to kick-start the work, the YEIDA will try to start acquiring land for the airport in July.

Civil Aviation Secretary, R.N. Choubey after the meeting, said that he expects that the foundation stone of the airport will be laid in December this year once the bid is awarded to the selected concessionaire.

As of now, the airport has been targeted to start its operations in another few years. It has been billed to cater to 30-50 million passengers per year over next 10-15 years. The civil aviation ministry expects Jewar airport to give a boost to connectivity in the whole of western Uttar Pradesh, which will in turn increase tourism and economic potential of the region.
