In a recent development, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has revealed that the APMC-Shreyas Metro Corridor will start its operations by the end of 2020. The corridor will connect North and south areas of the Ahmedabad city. Earlier the route has to commence its operations from 2019, but due to delay in finances, the development got hanged in midway.
Giving more information on the same, a senior GHMC official said, “The financial incapacity of the IL&FS Engineering the earlier hired developing agency led to considerable delays in the project. So, we have scrapped the deal with them and again hired a new contractor named J Kumar Infra. Because of this change, the project deadline date shifted to one more year.”
He further informed that the new contractor has already started with the remaining work and will complete it by the new deadline.
The 4.6 km stretch between APMC-Shreyas will pass through areas like APMC, Jiviraj Park, Rajiv Nagar, and Shreyas. One operational, the corridor will not only boosts the connectivity in between the North-South regions but will also trigger the real estate market of these localities.
The remaining stations of the North-South corridors will also be completed by 2020. The route of this line will start from Shreyas and end at Motera. In between, it will pass through areas like Paldi, Usmanpura, and Vadaj.
In March this year, PM Modi flagged off the first part of the phase-1 of the Ahmedabad Metro also called as East-West Corridor. Currently, the corridor is operational between Vastral and Thaltej Gram. The work on rest of the corridor is already underway and the whole East-west Corridor will become operational from 2021.
