Good news for all the Kolkata residents as the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has recently invited bids in order to expand the city Metro routes to connect major parts. RVNL has decided to expand the routes by 50 kilometer and the deadline to complete the whole projects is 2021.
The proposed routes will mainly connect eastern Kolkata to Western part that includes Howrah Maidan to Sector V, Kavi Subhash to the airport route and a nine km-stretch from Joka to Majerhat. Currently, RVNL is looking after all the new metro projects to be executed in Kolkata.

Corridor 1
A stretch of 16.6 km, this corridor is the latest addition in the Kolkata Metro which will connect east to west. The estimated cost of the project will be over Rs 4,500 crore and it will be developed in two phases. While the first phase (9.4 km) will be elevated, the second phase (10.8 km) will be underground. There will be 12 stations, of which 4 will be elevated and rest 8 will be underground.
Also, the residents will be able to travel in the first underwater metro wherein the train will pass through the Hooghly River.
Corridor 2
Another stretch of 16.72-km will run between the southern part of the city, Joka to the central region i.e. Esplanade. This route will have 11 stations and the construction date has not yet decided by the agency.
Corridor 3
The 29.1-km stretch will connect the border areas of the Kolkata and will have 24 stations. The metro link will run between Kavi Subhash area to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
